Seven years ago, we learned that freedom has a steep price. The world is now a different place than it was back then. Supposedly, steps have been taken, laws have been passed to make is safer, but are we? Before, we weren't safe, but we were free. Now though, it feels as if we're in a neo-fascist state where our fundamental rights are being eroded away, in the name of security. Benjamin Franklin once said that those who would give up liberty for security deserve neither. I would rather die a free man than live under tyranny.
The people who died that day seven years ago died for freedom. They died free. We must remember that. Let is keep our freedom as a fundamental part of the fabric of society, not some archaic concept that is to be censored and brushed aside when the current regime deems it an inconvenience. It is one thing to disagree with someone, as I'm sure there are those who'll disagree with these comments, but to suppress them means that we're no better than the terrorists. And we will then have become the terrorists ourselves…
