Congratulations should be in order

The Seattle Mariners have joined the rarified few: 100 losses in season with a $100 million payroll. With that kind of money, one would at least expect a winning season, if not a significant showing in the playoffs. With the exception of Ichiro, methinks the majority of the roster ought to be shit-canned. If you're going to command that kind of money, then you need to deliver the goods. But we also consider Stienbrenner's folly: you just can't buy another World Series ring by pouring money into team payroll. Individually, nearly all of the Yankees are stars in their own right. But the Yankees aren't even making the playoffs this year. Whatever, this is The New World Order (Mind-Control Division), mind you. Shiny Side Out, people!

It pleases me to no end that Torre took LA to the playoffs, while the Yankees went out with a whisper.

Still, even if you hate them - the final game at Yankee Stadium was inspiring, and an exciting way to close to doors to one of the most decorated stadiums in history. Ruth's daughter throwing the final first pitch is still touching...

... not to mention seeing my all-time favorite Paul O'Neill back in a Yankee Uniform one last time - and Bernie for that matter.

The only way it could have been better was if Don Mattingly was out there...
