Screw Amazon!

And Borders. And Barnes & Noble. And Waldenbooks…

At one of my employer’s locations, there is a Borders right next to us, and I’ve gone in there and looked around. But I’ve never bought anything. Nothing at all. Why should i? I’m just going to read it once, and then it’ll get shoved into the bathroom cabinet & forgotten, or even worse. So Borders will never see any of my money again. And I tell this to every Borders employee I know.

Never mind the mind that fact that I live only three blocks away from the public library, and I can place my library requests online a 2 am, like I just did…

Frelling cheap Chinese rip-offs!

The Chinese do have a reputation for making cheap knock-offs of mainstream merchandise. Here they are ripping off the leaning tower of Pisa:

I hear Pisa’s not really amused…

Don’t Drink and Drive

That’s all I have to say (for the most part) to you New Years’ Eve partygoers:

Then again, if you can’t even open the cork, then perhaps you shouldn’t be drinking in the first place…

Feeling somewhat better

Yes, I know I missed the chance to exhort you to have a productive Airing of Grievances and Feats of Strength with Festivus. And then there was the Godless Pagan Holiday we had yesterday.

Unfortunately, I've had a serious head cold this week. One of the down side of being diabetic is that bugs like this are very much worse. Normally, I avoid taking cold and flu remedies and just try to sweat it out. I would go for cough drops and tylenol (the headache does no one any good). The one thing I do miss is sudafed. I can’t find it anymore because the damn tweakers caused it to pulled of the shelf. But I’m feeling somewaht better of late (the 12 hours of sleep last night may have helped, too….).

Anyway today allegedly was Christmas. But I celebrated my Christmas on Christmas Eve at the Big Family reunion. There was fun. family, the obligatory church  service…. In years past, we practiced a modified Secret Santa (where we drew names from a hat, and that was who we shopped for), which was good. This year, the order was white elephant (where you spent $10.00 at most, and this year the presents were given out by lottery). Of course, I threw a monkey wrench into the process by bringing an extra, ‘spare’ gift. I don’t regret it (I never know which cousin’s bringing a significant other, or if we’re going to have an unexpected guest). Anyway, a blast was had by all, an the fact that they were distributed via lottery makes it all the more funny. You don’t have to really score the loot to have a good time. The most funny moment was when one of my cousins opened her present and realized that it was a photo album. For babies. Unfortunately, children are definitely not in their future (that’s what she said…). Although I think the dreidel I got for my very much Christian uncle was funnier…

So Merry Christmas (late), Happy New Year, Happy Godless Pagan Holiday, and Happy Festivus….

I’m a geek…

Yes, I know it’s ad-supported, but I can imbed it. And I like it. I think that’s all the reason I need to post it…

Tonight’s adventures

When I had my BlackBerry, I had a choice when it came to my PC Bluetooth connection. I could:

  • Not use the Bluetooth software that came with the dongle, and be able to sync my BlackBerry wirelessly, or
  • I could use the software that came with it, and be able to use my Bluetooth stereo headphones with the computer. Owing to pairing issues with my headphones and my BlackBerry, I wouldn’t be able to pair the headphones with both…

I chose to go with the latter (my BlackBerry came with headphones anyway, so I used the Bluetooth headphones with my computer). But tonight, I decided to see if I can pair my Windows Mobile phone up with my computer. A couple of starts and stops later, and I can sync my phone with my computer, and still be able to use the audio services (it’s complicated, but with the crackberry, I had to choose between one or the other, because RIM and The Anti-Christ are id10ts when it comes to product compatibility)…

BTW, I finally got Windows Mobile 6.5 to install and work on my phone.

Happy Godless Pagan Holiday!…

Well, it just turned midnight. IIRC, it is now winter solstice. Most of your so-called 'Christian' traditions at Christmas actually have Pagan origins. So, go out and celebrate a pagan holiday.

Please note: As much as I know some of you would like to go really Old Skool, given the current legal climate, I would not recommend human sacrifices…

Old, Old Skool Communication…

When it came to wireless communications, I went straight to a cell phone. I never had a pager. My first cell phone was a simple analog phone. My second phone was sufficiently digital that I could recieve numeric pages, but I usually just answered the phone (after all, it was a cell phone). And from then on, all of my cell phones were text capable. So I never had a pager, and therefore never learned the art of the beeper code.

Anyway, if you wanted to know what they were, here is a list of codes people used for numeric pagers.

I should mention my current phone not only does texting, but it also does email (in fact most of my email is actually done from my phone now)…

It's foggy out tonight…

A foggy night in Washington State. I hope you're hoping for clear weather on Christmas Eve. Santa doesn't have any Navaids. And Rudolph lost his red nose when he have up drinking…

To cleanse the palate…

With the upcoming Godless, Pagan Holiday, we’re being bombarded with all manner of Christmas carols. Some are catchy, and some…. Well, let’s just say I will not be responsible for my actions the next I hear the little drummer boy…

So, here’s a little something to clear your head from all the Christmas carols.

And now I’ll leave you to wonder why Rob Halford put out a Christmas album this year….

Feeling Hungry?

Why don’t you go to Taco Bell? And order something off the 99 cent menu (like a taco, perhaps). I myself would be partial to the 7-layer burrito, but that’s another story…

Anyway, guy goes into Taco Bell, buys 99 cent taco, pays $72.00 for it, and says pretty much ‘keep the change.’ The biggest tip I ever left at a restaurant was a $20.00, and the waiter came back out to make sure that I wanted to leave it. Then again, it was Nordstrom, and it was the same level of service that on would expect at Nordstrom…

A letter to Sbarro…

Hi. I work in the <redacted so the Internet doesn’t know where I work>, Washington. I'm not going to disclose where I work at, lest you retaliate, but I won't be doing business with you. Ever. Here's why:

First off: Right when your store opened (I believe that very night), I was approached by one of the employees (possibly the manager), and he asked me if I wanted to trade product after closing. It took repeated 'no's' for him to get the point. Every company that I've ever worked for has one word to describe this: STEALING. I've seen this individual at other locations, so I can only assume that he's in some form of management (ie store or district manager). And he propositioned me to steal from my employer. Who knows how many other merchants he's tried this with.

That wouldn't be bad enough. A few weeks later, I was asked by my boss to go get a slice of pizza for him. Right there, in front of everyone at the register, again I was propositioned again to steal from my employer in exchange for pizza. The only reason why I didn't walk out right then and there was because it was my boss's money, and he wanted his pizza. I've since let him know that if he wants your pizza, he can get it himself. My integrity will be above reproach.

I wouldn't have complained about those two episodes if it wasn't for tonight. The straw that broke the camel's back happened tonight. I was taking a customer's order when one of your employees approached. You must be running some kind of special tomorrow for mall employees, because he immediately went into his pitch. In the middle of my customer placing her order. Of course, I took his coupons and threw them right in the trash right in front of him, and reminded him that he interrupted a customer. I couldn't understand what he replied to me, but I don't think it was something repeatable. So what if I did that to you? You'd hit the roof. I don't go disrupting your sales, but obviously you just don't care.

You've disrespected me. You've disrespected my employer. And you've disrespected my customers. Not acceptable at all. Don't bother with any apologies. You are thieves, and I do not hear the words of thieves. My integrity will remain above reproach, and I will accept nothing from you. Just know I will never do business with you, and I will let everyone know what scum you really are...

Getting into the proper spirit…

Well ,a certain godless, pagan holiday is 2 weeks and change away. I thought’s I’d get into the proper spirit. So I put Handel’s Messiah on my phone’s mp3 player. I don’t know why I did it. There’s no ‘Bah, Humbug’ in it, nor is there The Airing Of Grievances…

What am I thinking?…

Just another reminder

Always zip your back-pack before you leave for work. I didn’t, and I noticed my spare cell phone battery, my belt clip and my bluetooth headset are no more. Fortunately, found and eBay auction for the battery dirt cheap, and I was wearing the really expensive bluetooth set. And I have two other holsters/belt clips. Lesson learned. Not as expensive that it could’ve been, but still it sucks….

The experiment is over

I went back to Windows Mobile 6.1. I can get 6.5 to work, but there’s too much effort to get everything to display properly, and I can do everthing in the 6.1 ROM already that I can do in the 6.5 ROM…

Possibly coming back?

Mike Holmgren could be coming back? One can only hope. Pretty muck the Seahawks (or as I call them, the B-Hawks) suck. Even the Detroit Lions are playing better than they are (I hear they actually mauled Christians the other day)….

Brrr…!

Those of you who are dieting should come to Parkland the next few days. You'll freeze your arse off, for sure. And I forgot my gloves. Oh well, who needs feeling in one's fingertips?

Trying new things…

As I’ve siad before many a time, I have a Shadow. The 2007 one. It came with Windows Mobile 6.0 on it. After about 7 months or so, I discovered a Windows Mobile 6.1 ROM that would work on it (in a nut-shell, it’s a port of the HTC S740 aka the HTC Rose). Anyway, I like it enough that it’s what I usually run nowadays on my phone.

A few months ago, though, somebody ported Windows Mobile 6.5 to the Shadow. Yes, this may be a stretch (the phone’s been officially disco’ed for over a year, and the processor is bit too slow), but there’s still development work going on for it…. The only drawback is that everytime I try it, I encounter some issue, and I end up going back to my previous ROM.

Anyway, I’m giving 6.5 another try. It’s a good thing I’ve got everything backed up…

One of Carson Daly’s drawbacks….

Is that he’s on late. Too late. So late that when I do watch his show, the computer’s already turned off, and so I don’t look up the musical guest and i end up forgetting he and/or she, no matter how good they are. Anya Marina was one of them. Fortunately i was channel surfing today, and I saw her on Bonnie Hunt.

Don’t know who Anya Marina is? Let me jog your memory:

Oh, btw she’s also on the soundtrack of a certain vampire movie….

All about the vampires….

So the big movie craze this season is a certain vampire movie. Apparently nowadays you can have teenage vampires. And you can have good vampires. I seriously disagree with both of them.

Vampires are evil. They are usually the villains for a good reason. You may love a vampire, but they’ll drink your blood in a heartbeat.

Vampires can not be teenagers. Before a certain vampire movie which will not be named, all the vampires were late middle-aged men (even senior citizen-ish). Take Béla Lugosi, Christoher Lee, or even Boris Karloff. They weren’t teenagers… Besides you really can’t be a vampire until you’ve passed the bar exam, or the IRS hires you…

No I don't like teenage vampires at all. I don’t like good vampires either. I’m not for team Jacob, or team Edward. I’m more team Grandpa Munster.

Holiday is here.

Today marks the start of Holiday. It lasts the entire month of December & January, as outlined by Bobby Henderson is his sacred writ. As a devout Pastafarian, I would celebrate this holy of day(s) if it wasn't for one of the teachings of The Flying Spaghetti Monster: Flimsy Moral Standards. Ramen.

So happy holiday, Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, or have an enjoyable Godless, Pagan Holiday and/or Festivus

Some job advice to the youth:

Don’t steal. Period. Don’t rob. You’ll get caught eventually, and the price is too steep to throw your life away over.

If you can’t do that, then all I have to say is don’t knock off the Wendy’s where your mom is the manager. Especially when she’s on duty at the time

Real crimes by real people. Who are real stupid….

Ok people, one last time

Violence. Is. Evil. Period.

If you’ve been under a rock today, well the best way I can say it is that somebody walked into a coffee shop where four police officers sitting at their laptops. And shot them. All four of them.

Violence only begets violence. If you think you’re going to get even with the police, they’re going to come after you. Granted, some of them are corrupt, rampaging assholes, but still human life is too precious to waste like this. Because of one man’s need for apparent revenge, there are now nine children without a parent. And what has this really brought us? Just a sadder world, and the realization that there are people out there specifically targeting those who are there to protect the rest of us.

Sad, sad indeed….

Happy Thanksgiving to all...

Well, today is Thanksgiving. The day where we celebrate a bunch of English religious extremists starting almost half a millennium of screwing over Native Americans....

To all you out there, Happy Thanksgiving. And to you poor souls working in retail, enjoy what may be your last day off....

And may your holidays be better than mine. My holiday started with me coming out of the bathroom, and I was greeted by some drunk passed out on my living room floor. And so of course I had the sherriff come by and show him off the property. BTW, remember to lock your door, people....

1-upping Einstein & Newton…

Petr HoÅ™ava has got to have some brass balls. He’s going one up on Newton and Einstein when it comes to gravity.

Just as long as he doesn’t postulate me out of existence…

Aw shit, what a rip-off….

Alan Ralsky only got four years. They didn’t get him for the pron, or the enlarge your ‘johnson’, or the fake pills. They nailed him for pump-and-dump. Which is a wee-bit illegal (the SEC tends to frown on such shenanigans…).

Alan Ralksy got four years. Robert Soloway got a little less than four years. They’re lucky. I would’ve gone for public execution. But there is a bright spot. It got Comcast to clean up their network (so people will stop blocking my email, and forcing me to pay for a smarthost), and they beefed up the filtering (all of my email services now are SBL protected…).

It’s here…

I use a 2007 T-Mobile Shadow. It came with Windows Mobile 6.0 on it. Until one day when found a Windows Mobile 6.1 ROM for it. Yes, I voided the warranty, but there never was one to begin with (I bought the phone used). There are a couple of WIndows Mobile 6.5 ROMS out there, but I really don’t like them. But the one thing I did like with WinMO 6.5 was that it had the Windows Mobile Marketplace in it.

Well, last week, The Anti-Christ announced that it was making the marketplace available to all 6.x versions. So I can now have the Windows Mobile versions of MySpace and Facebook. and a buck of other crap that I’m probably not going to use….

Hi Guys. I’m not dead yet.

Sorry. But life does get busy, and I’ve gone through some stuff lately that ought not be blogged. At least not yet…

  • The Seahawks once again suck this year. Pretty much they’re out of the play-offs, and I really doubt that they’ll even break .500. Since I work Sundays, I usually don’t get to see them play. Remind to thank my boss…
  • The Lions have actually won 2 games this year. They’re might be a good chance they’ll win more than the B-Hawks…
  • The only winning move in the game of Office Politics is not to play. There are some times, however, when you have to just grow a pair & tell you boss what the FARK is wrong, though.
  • I see the Doomsday Machine is up and running. The sooner the world ends, the better.

Would you please shut the fuck up? If you can't say anything nice about your opponents, then stick a fucking cork in you pie-hole! Yes, I'm a Pierce County resident, and so this election don't mean shit to me, but I have to listen to you slandering whores make up a bunch of worthless lies. Yes, you'll ast anything to get elected, and then immediately turn your back on your voters. But please, keep the bad-mouthing to a minimum. Fun with MyFaves and my phone, etc.

Since this spring, I've had the T-Mobile unlimited loyalty plan. Not Bad. $49.99 for unlimited voice, which puts my bill at about $100.00 or so when you include the unlimited texting and data plans that I added (hey, it's a Shadow…). Which was still cheaper than when I had the AT&T digital one rate…

Fast forward to 2 1/2 months ago when my Shadow finally gave up the ghost and I got a BlackBerry. I never really liked it. Not that there was anything against it, it performed exactly as it advertised. But a BlackBerry is still just an email client with a phone & a really crap-ass browser built in. The one redeeming grace about it was the Facebook app. So I looked on eBay, and found another Shadow (which BTW was the first auction I ever won. Period). So I was going to sell the BlackBerry. And my roommate (you know, my younger brother) made an offer for it. So I had to take it back to T-Mobile and have it reactivated. Since there are now two lines on my account, and I had the unlimited loyalty plan, I could get the MyFaves unlimited plan. The only drawback is that I had to deal with the damn Fave Five on my phone. Since the Shadow runs Windows Mobile, it's just a matter of changing 1 or 2 registry keys when I'm running the Stock ROM. Solution: go to http://wiki.allshadow.com and download the Windows 6.1 ROM of your choice. I prefer the Erofich 6.1 ROM.

Christopher Columbus sailed the ocean blue in 1492. And Native Americans have been getting screwed ever since…

Somebody figured it out…

You got to hand to them. I didn’t think anybody knew how to stun the President & not get a lot up-close-and-personal-attention from the Secret Service. But the Nobel Prize committee figured out how to do it. Barack Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize. He becomes only the 4th President to win it. Period. And only the 3rd to do it while still in office. I’m not really going to go into whether or not he really deserves it or not. That was the Nobel Committee's prerogative.

Perhaps he’s more popular in the rest of the world than hear. But hey, even a mindless blob of Jell-O in the White House is still better than Dubya….

Playboy Jumps The Shark!

Marge Simspon is going to drop the towel. What’s next, Ted McGinley getting a spread. I guess there must be a serious shortage of silicon/saline. But more likely than not, since most of it’s probably photoshopped anyway, they just deleted the model, and kept the photoshoppers.

Let’s try and get organized….

Ok, so I ditched my BlackBerry for another Shadow. Nothing against RIM or the BlackBerry phone, I just feel that I can get more done with a Windows Mobile platform than whatever RIM uses. Since I have Office installed on my computer, I use Outlook to manage my phone’s contacts & schedule. And it just occurred to me today after I overslept & missed a doctor’s appointment: Why not put all this in the Outlook Calender, & it’ll show up in my phone. I don’t know how long this’ll last, with my ever changing work schedule, but it’s worth a shot.

I remember many years ago for Christmas, I got a Day Timer from my my parents. I had just graduated form High School, and I thought it was the coolest thing. But I never used it. My schedule was always beyond the printed hours, or I didn’t have enough to do to make it worth bothering to write down. Now that I’m currently working in two different locations and have to plan with the bus schedule, maybe it’s time to start writing stuff down…

The return of an old friend…

I've had my BlackBerry for about two months now. And I don't like it. There's nothing against it really. It does everything that it's advertised to do. And had I gone straight to it from my Motorola Z3, there wouldn't have been a problem. But I had a Shadow. And I grew to love it. Yes, it has Windows Mobile on it, and there see some quirks to deal with (being from The Anti-Christ), but in my balance sheet, the pluses far exceeded the minuses…

Long story short, I started bidding on a couple of eBay auctions, and I finally won one. I have my Shadow back. It's used, and I have no warranty on it, but it works for now. As for my BlackBerry, I suppose I could throw in the drawer and keep it for a spare phone. Or I could sell it to a co-worker. Or I could let my boss sell it. Or my roommate wants me to activate it on a second phone line…

Decisions, decisions…

Fall is here

I can tell because the heat in my bedroom just kicked on.

During the spring of this year, the apartment people did some major electrical work (mainly switching from all utilities included to you’re paying your own electrical bill), which included new heaters in all the apartments. I don’t neccassarily care for all the ugly visible wiring that they did (that kind of stuff should be in the wall, but I think they don’t want to do that kind of work while it’s still occupied). They upshot is each room in the apartment now has a heater, thermostat (even the bathroom), and a smoke detector.

Ok, so the Seahawks lost today

The season's still young. But at least they lost by a lesser margin than what the Raiders lost today.

After the Vikings' victory today, the NFL has now added Geritol, bran muffins and prune juice to the list of banned performance enhancing substances. Though I think it's amazing to see Brett Favre out there taking snaps & throwing the ball. While still holding on to his walker. I don't think he'll ever retire until he becomes elgible for Social Security. Wait a minute: he's already eligible now...

Fun with Bluetooth…

Just had a crash course about Bluetooth. The Anti-Christ has a Bluetooth stack built into Windows XP. Which my BlackBerry software will pick up and I can sync my phone with my computer wirelessly. Slight drawback, though. The MS Bruetooth stack does support audio. The Widcomm stack (that actually comes with my Bluetooth dongle’s driver does).  In fact, it supports stereo Bluetooth, so I can use my stereo headphones when I don’t want to trip over a cord, or continue listening to WMP while a take a leak. The drawback, however is that the CrackBerry desktop software won’t pick up your BlackBerry’s Bluetooth connection. A choice has to be made….

And ultimately, I choose to go with the Widcomm stack. While it seems nifty to be able to sync up my BlackBerry wirelessly, I’m inevitably am going to be sitting at my computer when I do it (I’ll still have to manually open the software on my computer anyway), and so I’ll just plug in the USB cable. And enjoy the wireless headphones, which can be paired with both my computer and my phone…

Do not panic, citizen!

Ok, there's really nothing to see here. I'm just trying out the Bolt Browser for BlackBerry. It features YouTube support, though I haven't been able to get it to work yet. Under the hood, it supposedly uses the WebKit engine (what Safari and Chrome use). I just want to see SkyFire for BlackBerry... At least I can now tag my posts from my phone.

Finally

I can now watch a live football game.  Thanks to the NFL Network running every preseason game, I’ve been able to catch some games late @ night when I got home from work.  But tonight I can watch them live. First off will be the Jets and the Eagles. I saw Micheal Vick’s last time on the playing field, and all I can say is that I’m not impressed.  Much has been said about his off the field antics and how he has supposedly atoned for them, but I don’t see the results on the field either.

And then later on tonight, I can see the Seahawks wipe the field with the Raiders. My boss is a Raiders fan, and I’m not. Needless to say the trash-talking has already started…

Sometimes even with a half-assed job

You can still win. Case in point, the eagles tonight. Their performance was horrendous. But they still won. And they had the lead for only the first quarter and the final 15 seconds. But having the lead only counts at the end of the game...

So I'm watching some football...

Namely, a rerun/rebroadcast if the Eagles-Jaguars game. It's just into the second quarter, and I'm not impressed with Micheal Vick. You can go on & on about how he's turned his life around, but when it comes down to it, it's all about the results. I'm not seeing the same results from Vick that I am from McNabb. And when it comes down to it, having 2 quarterbacks on the field simultaneously doesn't win games. And it appears that the Eagles (with Vick) are getting the shit beat out of them.

What you do off the field is essentally irrelevant (provided you're not breaking the law). It's what you do on the field, and the results therein is what wins games. And I think the Eagles need to concentrate more on fundamentals (like not fumbling)....

And of course the Raiders are only going to one place: down the toilet…

Monday, August 24, 2009

Ok I haven't done this in a while…

It's time ti wipe and rebuild my system. I last did it in May, and now is good timeto do it. I have a recent back-up handy, and I have the day off.

Way to go, RIM….

It took 3 calls to T-Mobile, 1 visit to a T-Mobile store, multiple soft resets and 1 hard reset. But I have a working phone again. Here’s what happened:

Sunday morning I noticed I was getting het with a bunch of messages from friendster and Facebook. But they weren’t mine. They weren’t even being sent to any of my accounts. And they weren’t sms/mms messages (RIM and T-Mobile both have confirmed you can’t send HTML formatted text messages). So I called T-Mobile. And the said upgrade to blackberry 4.5. Which is what I had already ( so I couldn’t do it). A visit to the T-Mobile store, and my phone was hard reset (causing me to lose all my data, and apps). And they still kept coming in. One more call, and the support droid said to delete my email accounts and add them manually. And I still kept getting them. So I called again, and this time I told them point-blank that I wanted to talk to RIM. So off to RIM I went. The level 1 technician took some information (including my phone’s PIN) and had me forward one of the messages to him. After being on hold for and extended period of time, I was handed off to a level 2 tech. And he promptly explained what happened. Somebody in Indonesia set up wireless notices for his/her blackberry and the pin they entered was off by one character. And the resulting pin was my phone’s. So, the offending account was deleted.

And I have my sanity back…

It was my birthday yesterday...

And really appreciate all the well-wishes I got. A kind word beats any present. Anytime. Not that I didn't get anything (actually I got a couple of things), if I really want or need it, I'll get it myself. Life changes when you realize the truth of by the sweat of thy brow shalt thou eat bread. But I did get a new video card, so I can use my second monitor (hey, I gotta have my toys...). It's still an entry model card, but it's better than what it replaced. I don't care about horsepower anymore, as long as the job gets done. And I want to use my second monitor again.

He’s back

Brett Favre just can’t stay retired. Yes, that’s right: he’s back. He just can’t leave well enough alone. Well, maybe not that case, but still this is yet another has-been who’s coming back and will most likely get himself seriously hurt. Any, the NFL is making a couple of rule changes to accommodate the senior citizen players this year:

  • On the sideline, there will be a registered nurse with prune juice, geritol, and a bran muffin.
  • The offensive formations will be altered to allow him to use a walker, and failing that…
  • An extra player may be appointed to push his wheelchair.
  • There will also be extra time-outs to allow for the changing of the depends..
  • And there will also be an extra time-put to allow him to find his dentures should he lose them…

Attention Feedmil.com

I’m only going to say this once, so pull your face really close to the monitor to read this:

You’re a spammer. Go to hell.

Any questions?

And this would apply to anybody else wishing to send me unsolicited commercial email regarding my blog.

Even though it's summer

It still rains on my day off...

It's finally here again...

After 7 long months, it's back. Football season is here again. When I upgraded my cable a couple of months ago, I made sure that we were going to get the NFL Network. And now I'm watching a rerun of the Hall Of Fame game. Football ought to be watched in HD. With a home theater sound setup...

Now let's just see how many games I can actually watch...

What wonderful summer weather...

Ok, the heat wave last week was a little too much the other way. But this is august, when we're supposed to have the token blue skies...

But I'll take the cloudy days over triple digit temperatures any day.

Edit: Yes, that’s what August in Washington State looks like on occasion. But we did hit triple digit temperatures last week….

Pull your pants up!

Yes, I'm sending a picture of a full moon. No really important reasom I'm doing this for. It's just with the clouds coming it, it looks kinda spooky. Almost enough to turn one into a lawyer...

Edit: Yes, I know it’s a crappy picture. If you think you can do a better job, then go get your own blog….

The difference of one week.

It's been a week since the heat wave. Last wednesday, the tempuratures were well into triple digits. And I can assure I felt it all, with my bedroom having a westward facing window. And at the same time they were trying to paint the outside of my apartment' which meant covering my window with plastic film, thereby cutting off my only ventilation and adding only more misery. But the heat wave has broken, and temperatures are no where I can tolerate them.

My birthday is in two weeks. The rain should return then, like it did last year...

Let's have another shot at it...

Ok, one more try at this. If this doesn't work, I'll go back to MMS'ing Blogger directly...

Edit: I should probably just delete this post, but I’ll leave it in. This is just a test post from my Blackberry again.

Move Along Citizen. There Is Nothing To See Here. Again.

Never mind what you see here, I'm just playing around with my new phone. More exactly, I'm seeing how well I can blog from my phone. With my T619 and my Z3, I was basically limited to sending an MMS to go@blogger.com. And so I was limited to text and pictures. When I got my Shadow, I could download software to post directly, but was always hit or miss, usually the latter. Allegedly I can now post videos with this software, but that will wait for another post...

Edit: the software in question is cellspin on my Blackberry…

Another new phone….

My T-Mobile Shadow finally died. It didn’t really die. I slid it open at work, and then I had to go take care of a customer, so I closed it, and I heard something snap. The spring that holds the keypad open or closed broke, and for the past two weeks, I’ve been using a rubber band to hold it together.

Today, I got paid. So I went to Wally World. And I was looking at the T-Mobile selections they had there, and I ended up ordering something I though I never would: A CrackBerry Curve (more precisely, a  CrackBerry Curve 8320) It’s a bit different than my previous WIndows Mobile phones. But then again, RIM probably does a better job than The Anti-Christ.

Unlike my Motorola Z3 and my Shadow, I bought this phone new. So I got a protection plan for it, because I don’t have the $500+ to replace it….

Quick! We need firefighter! With sideburns!

I’m not dead yet. But between facebook, day job, and various and sundry other duties, I don’t post as often….

So lately I’ve been watching a lot of Hulu. They seem to have a good model. You can watch full episodes with a few commercials (actually less than on TV…). Now, what have I been watching:

I think every boy goes through the stage where they want to be firefighters. I, too, was one of them. I just so happen to have grown up when this was on….

There are those out there who play Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon. I prefer Six Degrees of Kevin Tighe…

We're going in!

Here’s footage from the Kaguya as it made it’s final orbit of the moon prior to crashing…

Someday we may return….

Thursday, June 25, 2009

So, what’s been happening here?

Well, were do I start….

  • Michael Jackson snuffed it. For all his eccentricities, he was still a person, and death is never a pleasant subject. As for the allegations of pedophilia, he did get his day in court, and the jury said ‘not guilty’ – that is sufficient for me. I remember growing up listening to his music – Beat it, Thriller… He will be missed.
  • Oh, and Farrah Fawcett bought the big one, too.  Whoever says cancer doesn’t kill is full of it…
  • My roommate got an HD TV when we moved in together. And I finally got a HD-DVR box for it. Since there’s a digital cable box in every room in the apartment now, I thought I should get some decent channels for it. My bill’s gonna be through the roof, but it’ll be worth it….
  • I thought tonight was going to be Spaghetti Night. No. My roommate ordered pizza. Again.

A sad day

Bob Bogle is no more. He was one of the founding members of one of my favorite music groups, The Ventures. IF you don’t know who they are, they were one of people responsible for the ‘surf’ sound out of the ‘60s.

Here’s a sample of there work:

And here’s their other version. Normally covering your own work is considered suicide in the music business, but the pulled it off.

The music scene will never be the same..

Good Riddance…

For fourteen years, I had an account with Bank of America. They were good, but I could’ve done without the fees.  Lots of them. Then the customer service went downhill. I noticed after 9-11 that when I went to make a deposit, I had to completely fill out the slip, address and all. I wasn’t taking money out, I was putting money in. And I was being treated like a criminal or a terrorist. Then there was time at the Tacoma Mall branch when the teller (her name was Ro) called me up to her windows. And then promptly walked away into the backroom, and left me hung out to dry. And then I noticed as the lines grew longer, the tellers were getting even more annoying. I’m not one for small talk when I’m in a rush, nor do I answer personal questions if I don’t know you. SO the tellers of course had to ask them, and then turn rude on me when i refused to answer them. Or there was the merchant teller (Linda at the Federal Way branch) who while filling my change request, was arguing actively with her son. My complaints to them were of course ignored. The straw the broke the camel’s back came a couple of weeks ago, when they sent me a letter indicating that the  monthly service charge was being raised to $8.95 a month. I’m not paying that much to be treated like dirt.

Fortunately, I have a spare checking handy. I’m going with BECU. They’re free, they pay interest, and I’m far more satisfied with them.

Yet another use for duct tape….

When I got my new computer last December, I migrated some hardware over, too (namely the TV Tuner and the Wi-Fi card). The only drawback was my new computer didn’t have a floppy drive (we’ll leave the arguments about whether or or a floppy drive is really necessary for another post).  Ok, I can pull the floppy from the old computer, but the screw holes don’t quite fit up… So I tried the handy-man’s secret weapon: Duct Tape.  And yes, duct tape does hole floppy drives in place….

Ok, I admit it

I had absolutely no idea. My mom had confided in me about it, but I didn't are the signs, and so I held my tongue. And then yesterday, my best friend told me he was gay. He's been practicing celibacy for 10 years now, but he's gay. And I had no idea. Not that it really matters. I mean, if you're practicing a lifestyle just for the approval of those around you, then you're doing it for the wrong reason. I do have my opinions on homosexuality, but I keep them to myself. I may not argue with you, but that doesn't mean that I agree with you. But of this I can only say but one thing: I have no gaydar.

On the economies of scale…

I just out of the pharmacy, and I was wondering why I was given 7 vials of insulin. And at least 3 months for my other meds. Then it occurred to me: it's just like Costco. The more you buy at once, the lower the unit price becomes. Sometimes even if you have no health insurance, it does pay to scale up. And there are pharmacies that are cheaper than Wally World. And they happen to be in walking distance of my house, too.

Skyfire is out!

Hello, gentles all. If your phone is powered by Symbian or Windows Mobile, then listen up. There is a new browser out there. It's called Skyfire.

Basically it can do anything that the grown-up browsers on your computer can do. You know, like YouTube, Hulu, flash, etc. You can also zoom in and out, and it renders webpages like they appear on a regular computer.  Granted The Anti-Christ hasn’t really fückered up Internet Exploder in windows mobile yet, I’m not taking any chances. Although the Facebook app they put out isn’t really that shabby… I hear they’re also working on a mobile version of Firefox (called Fennec), but everytime I try to install it on my T-Mobile Shadow, it just doesn’t work…

The first paragraph of the post was written in Skyfire. The rest was finished Windows Live Writer…

More spam from Target

After my last post, I got a reply back from Claudia at Target, who basically told me to click the unsubscribe link, and that she had completed it for me, and that I would be getting it for two weeks.  I’m not going to repeat my reply to her, but I’m not impressed with it, to say the least.  When I look closer at it, I am ever further disgusted with Target. Not only did they spam me, but they sold my address to a 3rd party, basically means, that my spam load is going to increase.  Basically, my address is going to get put on the ‘mllions’ cd and sold to other spammers. I’ve been through this before. I’ve been an admin on spam blocklists before. If I still was, Target’s corporate servers would be there right now. Spammers Lie. Target Lies. End of discussion.

Anyway, here’s the latest one:

Boulder Pledge: Target

I thought they were one of the good guys. I was treated rudely at the food avenue a couple of weeks ago, and I sent complaint through the web form. I got the auto-ack from them where they basically they were dev/null’ing my complaint, which isn’t good. And then this showed up in my inbox today:
