So, what all happened last week….

Last Monday was St. Patrick’s day. In Ireland, it is more of a religious holiday. In fact, up until 1970, all the pubs were closed on St. Patrick’s Day, and you went to church that day. It’s only in America that it’s celebrated with Green (actually St. Patrick’s color is blue), and excessive beer (which is ironic as St. Patrick’s Day is being celebrated during Lent this year, if you’re Catholic…). I’m not Catholic, nor  am I Irish. So I didn’t wear green, and I didn’t drink at all. I think it should be mentioned here that I no longer drink (alcohol is really pointless).

I’m watching Cosmos with Neil DeGrasse Tyson. He’s still no Carl Sagan, but he’s still making science interesting. The fact that he almost has a pornstache doesn’t hurt either… Carl Sagan introduced me to Johannes Kepler. Tyson has introduced me to Edmund Halley…

I renewed my phone contract a couple of months ago (I’ve already blogged about my new phone). And this week, my brother wanted to upgrade, too. So, he got his latest iPhone this week. And I had to be there, since it’s my account, and Sprint is rather strict about account holders…

And if you’re play Flight Simulator X, give yourself at least 15,000 feet before you barrel roll a jetliner. And while you’re at it, don’t hell dive the final appraoch…

Reconciling with pluto…

A few years back, I wrote about Pluto gaining midget status… Last week on Late Night with Seth Meyers, Neil deGrasse Tyson was on. Neil was part of the committee that relegated Pluto to midget status. Well, they finally buried the hatchet:

This may be just a late-night sketch, but there is a moral here. Always make peace with those around you. You don’t always have to agree with them 100 percent, but just get along. You can have a different opinion than your fellow man, and not have to come to blows….

And a clone 1/8 our size. A one megajoule “laser” has been demonstrated. Allegedly this is for research into nuclear fusion, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the “lasers” showed up attached to sharks’ heads, or if America started getting extortion notes demanding a million dollars…

Sorry. But life does get busy, and I’ve gone through some stuff lately that ought not be blogged. At least not yet…

• The Seahawks once again suck this year. Pretty much they’re out of the play-offs, and I really doubt that they’ll even break .500. Since I work Sundays, I usually don’t get to see them play. Remind to thank my boss…
• The Lions have actually won 2 games this year. They’re might be a good chance they’ll win more than the B-Hawks…
• The only winning move in the game of Office Politics is not to play. There are some times, however, when you have to just grow a pair & tell you boss what the FARK is wrong, though.
• I see the Doomsday Machine is up and running. The sooner the world ends, the better.

RIP Edward Lorenz

The father of chaos theory has passed away at the age of ninety.  Meteorology will never be the same.  His main contribution was to prove that small events (like a butterfly flapping its wings) can set off enormous events (like a tornado in Texas).

Personally, I don't need his theories to predict the weather.  I just take a look at my schedule at work.  If I'm off, it's going to rain.  If I have to work, it'll be sunny.....

Have you ever wondered

How are Hard drive works?  Here is an interesting write-up.  When I first bought my computer, it came with a 30-gigabyte HDD (which was a $150.00 upgrade from the original 10 gigabyte).  Then, I shelled out another $150.00 to add a second 30 gig drive.  4 years later, I paid about $80.00 to replace one of them with a 80 gig model, and earlier this year, the other 30-gig drive got replace with a 160 gig drive.  For about $75.00.  Did I also mention that hard drives are becoming cheaper?

But did they have car insurance?

OK, I am currently watching Walking With Cavemen on the Science Channel, and I have to think, would Australopithecus Afarensis use Geico?  And why is the gecko in those damn Geico ads looking a lot like the mascot in SuSE?

Happy Anniversary

Voyager is now 30 years old.  I was only a child when they encountered Jupiter and Saturn, and didn't really pay attention to it.  Until I saw the National Geographic articles.  I've been fascinated with space exploration ever since then.

Hawking to write children's' book

MC Hawking is writing a children's' book. I still have my copy of A Brief History Of Time somewhere around here. He'll either teach us about science or how to kick it Old Skool (video of the latter here).
